Sale 2500 Lot 476
Lithograph, 1908-09. 415x320 mm; 16 1/2x13 inches, full margins. Edition of approximately 80-90. Signed in pencil, lower right. Printed by Dansk Reproduktionsanstalt, Copenhagen. From Alfa og Omega. A very good impression of this scarce lithograph.
Both the composition and the central figure in this lithograph bear similarities to Munch's seminal oil, The Scream, completed in 1893. Munch's practice of simplifying facial features to make the human face appear to be almost mask-like, and placing his figures in partially abstracted landscapes heightens the tension and anxiety in his works. Schiefler 327; Woll 357.
