Sale 2505 Lot 175
(REFERENCE.) Warden, David Bailie. Bibliotheca Americo-Septentrionalis: Being a Choice Collection of Books . . . Relating to . . . North America. 147 pages. 8vo, modern 1/2 morocco; minor foxing; numerous pencil annotations, ownership inscription of George Brinley on title page. Paris, 1820.
Estimate $2,000 - 3,000
One of the earliest auction catalogues devoted exclusively to Americana. This copy later belonged to George Brinley (1817-1875), one of the pioneer collectors of Americana and among the most voracious. The catalogue contains over 2,000 items, and Brinley placed his initials next to a great many of them, presumably indicating that he also owned a copy--unsurprising, given that Brinley's library exceeded 30,000 titles.Price Realized (with Buyer's Premium) $1,375
