"Manteau du Soir pour la robe 1169." Costume design created for the Broadway production Manhattan Mary, 1927. Gouache and graphite on paper. 203x78 mm; 8x3 inches, on 15x11 1/4-inch sheet. With Erté's stamp and manuscript notes on verso.

The two-act Broadway musical comedy was a "roaring twenties" New York extravaganza at the Apollo Theater, replete with a jazz score by Ray Henderson, brightly colored sets and costumes by Erté and William Oden Waller, and a rags-to-riches plot. Produced by the prolific George White, it ran from September 26, 1927 to May 12, 1928 and starred Ed Wynn, Ona Munson, and White himself. Swann Galleries sold an original set design for this musical in 2017 for a record $77,500.
