Abbatt (1847-1917) was born in New York and early on decided to become an artist. In the 1870s she attended Cooper Union and the National Academy of Design in New York and pursued figural art. Willard and Mary A. Livermore, 1897), in which the current painting is cited as one of her most notable works.
