A large, fanciful creature named after the friend for whom the drawing was apparently executed (one presumed Daniel Tanner). The two trees in the background are labeled "Arbor Cliffensis" and "Arbor Eleanorus." Pencil sketches in portions of the background reveal Seuss's working process. Clifford (a master horticulturalist) and Eleanor Tanner were friends of Seuss in California from the 1940s on.Price Realized (with Buyer's Premium) $5,750
