(ABRAHAM LINCOLN)
A typological road trip album with 120 snapshot photographs of placards, historical sites, billboards, businesses, and other signage, all with the theme of "Lincoln."
The obsessive and visionary album documents pilgrimmage car trips made in the Midwest and East to various historical sites related to Abraham Lincoln, documenting every instance in which Lincoln's name appeared on road signs, businesses, the sites themselves, and other monuments. Includes hotel signs, banks, a church, Lincoln busts used in advertising, car dealerships, road signs, historical placards, and more; sites include Lincoln's homestead, the Lincoln Memorial, and one of the last images is Ford Theater, where the President was assassinated. Silver prints, the images measuring 3x4 1/2 inches (7.6x11.4 cm.), and the reverse, the sheets slightly larger, some with the date stamped in the lower margin, on recto, and each with a description of the location and the date, in ink on verso; each slipped into a page with clear plastic cover. Small red leatherette album, twin-bolt binding, with two rows of pages. 1956-60
