Folio, bound in beautiful Art Deco binding of turquoise morocco featuring pedestal and urn bursting with gold fruits, decorated with color leather details and borders on both covers, doublures with repeating motifs, and gold endpapers, by gruel, pictorial wrappers bound in, spine a bit faded, bands and ends slightly rubbed with surface loss to latter; top edge trimmed and gilt; morocco-edged chemise and slipcase (worn). A sumptuous collaboration by Art Deco masters Barbier and Schmied in an elaborate binding by Gruel. Number 29 of 125 copies Signed by Barbier. Among the most beautiful works of the period and one of the best examples of Barbier's early work. Begun in 1914, the production of Les Chansons de Bilitis was halted by the death of Pierre Corrard at the onset of the war, and only completed by his widow in 1922. Ritchie 10.
