Additional Details

A small but important archive of Herbert Bayer books, sketches, letters, dust jacket mock-ups, and related material. The archive includes: one copy of the trade edition in original mailing carton with Bayer's label, inscribed and signed by him to Steiner; 2 mock-ups of the dust jacket design for Herbert Bayer: The Complete Work, on acetone with pencil indications, one each in blue and red design (the book was ultimately printed with red); and 5 copies of the finished jacket. 297x755mm; numerous typed and autographed letters and postcards signed between the two, discussing aspects of design and production procedures; thumbnail sketches of page layouts and grids, in pencil, in Bayer's hand. A meaningful archive of the making of this comprehensive survey about one of the greatest artists and designers of the 20th century.
