(JALOPY RACES)
A vast archive comprising 7 beautifully compiled photo albums, collectively containing over 600 photographs of jalopy and stock car racing in the Northeast, as photographed by Cleo May, a female photographer from Bellows Falls, Vermont.
With images of wrecked jalopies, winning drivers' portraits, race retirees, crowded bleachers, and race-ready autos when spotted on trailers in the vicinity of the speedway. Alongside the numerous photographic components, the obsessively meticulous and colorful albums archive hundreds of ephemeral objects, from descriptive race write-ups, lap-times and results; to tickets, clippings, programs, handmade paper flags, and a two-page poem, written to the photographer/compiler's favorite driver, Dick Carey. Silver prints (607), the images measuring approximately 3 1/2x6 inches (8.9x15.2 cm.), and some slightly smaller and larger, mounted recto/verso, to colorful pages, with equally colorful corners, nearly all pages with descriptive and jolly captions, in ink. 4tos, red leatherette; 3-ring bindings. 1953-56
