(SOUTH AFRICA--INDUSTRY) Pair of albums containing 95 photographs documenting occupation and life in South Africa, with scenes of Cape Town and Johannesburg, alongside views of various gold mining operations and railroad construction. Featuring well-photographed images highlighting the active mining operations in the region, showing African miners underground, a stack of forged bullion, and the impressive infrastructure of multiple mining companies. The first album also covers daily life in Johannesburg and Cape Town, with bustling views of the city centers, ports, marketplaces, and buildings of historical import. A companion album is dedicated solely to the construction of the Pretoria Pieterson Railway, exhibiting images of railroad bridges and trestles, newly erected station houses, and a group of armed Boers, as well as railcars filled with African workmen, scenes of track-laying "section hands," and surveys of the barren landscape, just waiting to be conquered by the "Glory Road." Printing-out paper prints, the images measuring approximately 6x8 1/4 inches (15.2x21 cm.), and the reverse, nearly all with identifying captions or credits in the negative (the first credited to F.
