Additional Details

Remarkably well-preserved set of an exceedingly scarce pocket encyclopedia of personal care, housekeeping, and health maintenance for women. The first volume gives advice on personal hygiene, skin and hair care, beauty, and wardrobe; the second deals with stain removal, household cleaning, and pest control; and the third and fourth volumes contain home remedies and first aid instructions for a wide variety of complaints. The Lille printer-bookseller Blocquel (1780-1863) was a prolific publisher of almanacs, advice books, and popular literature, some of which he wrote himself. Bibliographie de la France (1827) 7633; OCLC locates only the set at the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris.
