The North American Indian, Portfolio V. Featuring 36 photogravures from Curtis' seminal study of Native Americans, including many pensive portraits and the iconic image Bear's Belly, Arikara. Photogravures on vellum, the images measuring approximately 11 3/4x15 3/4 inches (29.8x40 cm.), and the reverse, the deckle-edged sheets 22x18 inches (55.9x45.7 cm.), each with Curtis' credit, title, date, plate number, and the printer's credit printed on recto. Elephant folio-sized morocco over brown cloth folding case with the gilt-lettered number, lightly worn and lacking ties; with the plate list; contents loose as issued.
