GEORGES LEPAPE (1887-1971) BAL DE LA COUTURE PARISIENNE. Poster and proof. 1925.
Each approximately 31 1/2x16 inches, 80x40 1/2 cm. Edia, Paris.
Condition varies, generally A- / A.
Georges Lepape was the most important and talented fashion illustrator in Paris during the Art Deco era, designing catalogues for Paul Poiret and submitting illustrations to La Gazette du Bon Ton. His work has become a visual synonym for that stylish period. As such an au courant artistic talent he was also commissioned to design posters advertising major events in the Parisian social circuit. For the Fashion Ball, Lepape presents a haughty, chic couple. His ability is so capably displayed, not only in the design, but in the pattern of the woman's jacket, which is of the most extraordinary fabric. Includes the final printing as well as a three-color-proof. Lepape p. 107.
