GIOVANNI ANTONIO DA BRESCIA, CALLED ZOAN ANDREA (after Giovanni Pietro da Birago)
Two ornamental panel engravings.

Three Children Playing * Two Infant Satyrs. Both approximately 530x85 mm; 21x3 1/2 inches, narrow to thread margins. Both circa 1500-05. The first ex-collection Fürst von Liechtenstein (Lugt 4398, verso). The second with a fleur-de-lys in a circle watermark (similar to Briquet 7115). Both very good impressions of these extremely scarce, early engravings.

These are two engraved panels from a series of 12 that are based on designs by Giovanni Pietro da Birago (1470-1513), three of which (including these two) were engraved by Giovanni Antonio da Brescia (active 1490-1519) in his early, Mantegnesque technique of the early 1500s. Bartsch 24 and 27.
