Baldwin opens with "My God, will we be glad to see you!" He goes on to say how he is agonizing over finishing a book (probably "From Another Place"). He gives Haley a couple of addresses in Paris of his "best friends," including Mary Paynter, a close friend of Richard Wright's, and artist Beauford Delaney. Discussing where he lives outside Istanbul: "It's on a hill outside of town. You'll never find it alone. Wire me . . . David's just gone scouting for chicken & watermelon. Till later baby, yours, Jimmy."
