Additional Details

first edition of a treatise on the fate of the Ten Lost Tribes and the prospect of Jewish messianic redemption, inspired by the reported discovery of a tribe of Jews in South America by the Portuguese Marrano explorer Antonio Montezinos, whose account of his experiences is included in the book. Manasseh''s interpretation of the prophesies in Deuteronomy 28:64 and Daniel 12:7 led him to believe that the deliverance of the Jews could occur only when their global dispersion was complete. This influenced his efforts to persuade the Puritan government of Oliver Cromwell to reverse the 1290 expulsion of the Jews from England by King Edward I.
