The inscription reads: "To my lovely Sandy/The nicest joy in the world/Eddie Adams." From the Estate of William J. "Sandy" Colton. All proceeds to benefit the Eddie Adams Workshop. Great News Photos and the Stories Behind Them, 63. This iconic image won Adams the 1969 Pulitzer Prize and a World Press Photo award. Later on he would lament its notoriety: 'The general killed the Viet Cong; I killed the general with my camera." In addition to the Pulitzer, Adams received more than 500 awards for his press photographs.
