ROGER BRODERS (1883-1953) WINTER SPORTS IN THE FRENCH ALPS. Circa 1929.
40x25 1/2 inches, 101 1/2x64 cm. Lucien Serre, Paris.
Condition A.
The Mont-Blanc railway is the highest altitude railway line in France, connecting St. Gervais with Nid d'Aigle (the Eagle's Nest). In the winter its steam engines would push passenger cars up the hill. Printed in two languages, this is the rarer English version with smaller text appearing above Broders' signature. In the French version the information appears in larger text as part of the poster's title. The patterned sweater in this poster "is in fact modeled after one knit by Marguerite Broders" (Broders p. 11). Broders p. 73 (var), Perry / Broders p. 73, Hillion p. 224 (var), Skiing p. 46, Le Sport 174 (var), Sportissimo p. 159 (var), Favre p. 180 (var)..
