Begun in 1924, the celebration of Old Spanish Days in Santa Barbara was created to generate more tourist interest in the region during the summer months. It is a celebration of the area's Mexican and Hispanic heritage. Roy Lawhorne was a commercial artist based in Santa Barbara who spent ten years as Art Director for Seaside Gasoline (based in Summerland, California, just south of Santa Barbara), designing their advertising and calendars. rare
