GOREY, EDWARD. (DRACULA). Fabric swatches. Two cotton fabric samples manufactured by Sprins Mills for Gorey, each with his designs for Dracula. Printed in black, white, and slate blue. One measures 26 1/4x28 3/4 inches and has bats flying through dark clouds with skull-faced moons looming (one of which is cut out and ironed onto a blank area of the fabric). The second swatch measures 22x27 7/8 inches and bears the central image of Dracula and Mina Harker / Lucy Westenra framed by curtains with skull-headed cherubim, with two small drops of blood printed in red, a few small soil marks, two cloth ties sewn at top ends in apron string fashion. This design became the pillowcase image produced later. Housed in original craft paper mailing envelope from Gorey to Bromer Booksellers in his hand, with postage label dated 5 January 1983.
