"Babar dans l'Île aux Oiseau." Together, two studies for the French edition of "Babar Visits Bird Island" (Paris: Hachette, 1969.) Watercolor, ink, and pencil on paper. Cover study is 367x279 mm; 14 1/2x11 inches, on a folded folio sheet. Signed in pencil, lower margin. Double-page spread with de Brunhoff's penciled and mounted text below "Entourés d'un vrai feu d'artifice d'oiseaux les deuse petits éléphants ne savent plus où regarder" ("Surrounded by a firework of circling birds, the little elephants did not know where to look.") 375x533 mm; 14 3/4x21 inches on folio sheet with center vertical fold. Signed in pencil, lower right. The verso contains an additional rough mock-up of 3 cut text panels and three quickly scribbled thumbnail ink sketches (one of which is pasted over).
