ROGER PÉROT (1906-1976) DELAHAYE. 1932.
62 1/2x46 3/4 inches, 158 3/4x118 3/4 cm. Les Ateliers A.B.C., Paris.
Condition A- / B+: creases, printer's creases and minor abrasions in margins and image; water staining at bottom edge. Framed.
Primarily an architect, Pérot designed a few exceptional posters, his two masterpieces being for Marchal headlights and this image for Delahaye. He created two versions of this classic automobile poster, each the same image but with different colors to suggest opposite times of day. The first, offered here, features a car against a blue background for a profound night-time image. The second, done in 1935, depicts the roadster on a sunny afternoon. With the car approaching the viewer at full speed over a hill, the typography mirrors the angle of the car's front wheels, adding further dynamic perspective to the poster. Art Deco, p. 87, 2nd Salon Automobile 72, Crouse p. 58.
