Additional Details

This image by Carpenter, is from from Bunting's children's book about an Italian-American immigrant family's annual journey to picnic at the base of the Statue of Liberty on her birthday. It shows them gazing upwards, marvelling at Lady Liberty from her base, while the cityscape of lower Manhattan, prominently featuring the Twin Towers, sets a bright and hopeful backdrop.
