Loïs Mailou Jones and Céline Marie Tabary (1908 – 1993) became friends in Paris when they studied at the Académie Julian in Paris in 1937. Tabary followed Jones, emigrating to Washington, DC in 1938 and stayed due to the beginning of World War II. In the late 1940s, Tabary and Jones founded the "Little Paris Group", a studio group for live model sessions artists that they held on the top floor of Jones' Quincy Street residence. This joyous homage to Paris dates from this late 1940s period.
