(EROTICA IN A BREAD BOX)
A metal bread box containing approximately 980 American and European risqué and erotic photographs relating to human sexuality.
Includes a range of steamy same sex and heterosexual activity that includes bondage and flagellation, many female frontal nudes depicting femme fatales, and scenes of "menages-a-trois." Apparently the box was believed to have contained the inventory of a clandestine dealer of erotic photographic materials. Silver and silver copy prints on deckled paper, the images measuring 4 1/2x2 1/2 inches (11.4x6.4 cm. ), and the reverse, the sheets slightly larger; most housed in manila envelopes with oval-shaped apertures, and with a numeric hand stamp/inventory number. The bread box measures 9x9x13 1/4 inches (22.7x.22.x7x33.7 cm.), black enamel, chipped with areas of loss, and dents; sliding door. 1905-30s
