DOX THRASH (1893 - 1965)
Rugged Homes.

Carborundum mezzotint and etching on cream wove paper, circa 1944-46. 305x229 mm; 12x9 inches, wide (full ?) margins. Signed in pencil, lower margin.

Visible in the house, there is a faint printing from Thrash's 1941 aquatint Shipfitters - see Ittmann fig. 78. Thrash apparently cut down and re-used the copper plate without completely burnishing out the previous etching.

A very good, dark impression of this very scarce print. Ittmann was unable to locate an impression; he reproduces the print's illustration from Cedric Dover's American Negro Art. Ittmann 119: Dover pl .44.
