Etching and aquatint on cream wove paper, circa 1951-55. 114x191 mm; 4 1/2x7 1/2 inches, wide margins. Signed and titled in pencil, lower margin.
A richly inked, superb impression with hand wiping of this very scarce print. An alternative title to this etching is Vineyard Haven - an impression bearing this title was sold at Swann Galleries on October 9, 2014, and is the only other impression we have located.
After receiving a Carnegie Foundation grant, Douglas was able to travel and paint along the East Coast in the summer of 1951 - including a visit to Martha's Vineyard. Earle p. 220.
