ALPHONSE MUCHA (1860-1939) [PORTRAIT OF A CHILD IN LARGE HAT AND SAILOR BLOUSE.] Crayon drawing.
Approximately 20 1/2x11 3/4 inches.
Condition A. Paper. Signed twice in crayon.
Mucha found inspiration in children and loved to portray them in his art. They can be found in the 1897 exhibition of his work at the Salon des Cent that contained two pastel portraits of a young boy and a young girl. Within the Documents Decoratifs are sketches of children's heads, and when he returned from Paris to Prague, he began depicting young Czech girls, with round faces, blonde hair and blue eyes. Such was his skill as a portraitist, and such was his passion for children that these tender images always catch the individual's childish attitudes.
