Additional Details

first american edition, among the rarest conan doyle titles. Volume 11, Number 16 of the "Once a Week Library," and with 'The Siege of Sunda Gunge' (by H. Greenhough Smith, unsigned) on pp. 113-24. ABPC and Rare Book Hub list only one previous auction appearance (Rosenbaum copy, Sotheby's London, 17 December, 1998, lot 289). Green and Gibson list this as the first American edition (secondary sources describe this edition as a piracy), although Lippincott's did issue it as a complete novel in their magazine for February, 1890.
