first edition. number 134 of 110 numbered copies on China paper, from a total edition of 150. The Belgian painter, printmaker, watercolorist, and illustrator is best known for his delightful edition of Le Petit Chaperon Rouge (1921). Carrousels et Baraques was Tijtgat's depiction of childhood memories that came to him like "all the sparks of pearls on black velvet and the little windows of a thousand hues adorning the carousels and booths in my village." (from the preface).
