This late Bannister landscape is a beautiful study of fall foliage along the Pawtuxet River in Rhode Island. Bannister frequently sketched and painted river scenes in Rhode Island. He painted an earlier 1895 oil depicting a skiff on the river banks, "At the Pawtuxet (By the Brook)", in the collection of the Providence Art Club.
