Solon, a self-taught artist, designed posters for several different airline companies, starting with Franco-Roumaine in 1930, then Farman, Lufthansa and KLM. His most important airline client was Air France, beginning in 1933, for which he designed a handful of boldly-colored posters in his inimitable Art Deco style. Here, combining dynamic typography with the speed and depiction of a Wibault 282.T12, he portrays the Golden Clipper on its speedy route between Paris and London, illuminating the entire poster in the golden rays of the sun, as if to emphasize its name. Fly Now! p. 99, Air France p. 9.
