A. ERNST KRETSCHMANN (1897-1941) PKZ. 1924.
50x36 inches, 127x91 1/2 cm. Wolfsberg, Zurich.
Condition A-: repaired tears in margins; replaced lower right corner.
Kretschmann, who fought in World War I for 2 years, worked predominantly as painter of military scenes and portraits during World War II. In stark contrast to his military art, during the inter-war years, Kretschmann created this one fashion design poster in addition to his illustrations for fashion periodicals and books. It is a visual symphony of olive, blue, black and red that resonates from the border to the shadow cast by the dapper man. Lithe and elegant, it is a fitting touch that the color of the typography matches the young man's tie.
