Heinz Edelmann was born in Czechoslovakia in 1934, and in the 1950s he studied and worked at Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts. With a strong background and interest in printmaking, he soon became a well-respected freelance graphic designer. Edelmann was hired in 1968 as the art director for the Beatles' animated film "Yellow Submarine" after submitting two-dimensional illustrations of each Beatle for the story. He devised many of the ideas for the film, imbuing the animation with its iconic psychedelic atmosphere (despite reportedly having no psychedelic experiences of his own). These four hangers are among many collectible music and movie star hangers that were produced in the 1960s by Henderson Hoggard Inc., who (along with a company called Famous Faces) released hangers for other popular artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Marlon Brando and the four Monkees.
