Autograph Letter Signed, "Dav'd Wooster Maj'r Gen'l," to President of the Congress of New York Peter Van Brugh Livingston, announcing the arrival of a notorious Loyalist prisoner. 1 page, 9 1/4x7 1/4 inches; apparently lacking an integral blank, inked page number in upper corner, several short tears (the longest under an inch) at edges, docketed on verso. 'I have just received your favour of the 14th instant with the enclosed affidavit, also Angus McDonald, who shall be kept in such a state of security as may effectually prevent any mischief that might otherwise be expected from him. Be good enough to give my comp'ts to the gentlemen of the Congress & tell them that I am sorry you are obliged to send your prisoners so far. I should be much better pleased to receive them within a few miles of your city, especially as you so soon expect the arrival of the four regiments from Ireland." David Wooster (1711-1777) was at this point the Major General of Connecticut's rebel forces; he would soon be appointed a Brigadier General in the Continental Army, and was mortally wounded in battle in 1777. Angus McDonald had been arrested for attempting to recruit a Loyalist battalion in New York, and was sent to Connecticut. Wooster's regiment was then heading to New York to help defend against the anticipated arrival of a British force.
