'I have just received your favour of the 14th instant with the enclosed affidavit, also Angus McDonald, who shall be kept in such a state of security as may effectually prevent any mischief that might otherwise be expected from him. Be good enough to give my comp'ts to the gentlemen of the Congress & tell them that I am sorry you are obliged to send your prisoners so far. I should be much better pleased to receive them within a few miles of your city, especially as you so soon expect the arrival of the four regiments from Ireland."
David Wooster (1711-1777) was at this point the Major General of Connecticut's rebel forces; he would soon be appointed a Brigadier General in the Continental Army, and was mortally wounded in battle in 1777. Angus McDonald had been arrested for attempting to recruit a Loyalist battalion in New York, and was sent to Connecticut. Wooster's regiment was then heading to New York to help defend against the anticipated arrival of a British force.
