Additional Details

first edition in english of a collection of writings by a radical pietist author (1688-1753) influenced by the doctrines of the Catholic mystics Antoinette Bourignon and Jeanne Guyon. This copy is expanded to more than twice its original thickness by the addition of blank leaves at the end watermarked 1817, roughly half of which are filled with a neatly written manuscript of liturgy for the first Sunday in Advent through Ember Saturday after Pentecost, in English with partly Latin rubrics. Formerly the property of Samuel W. Pennypacker (1843-1916), 23rd Governor of Pennsylvania, sold as lot 243 in his sale at Henkels on 26 April 1906, with the catalogue description speculating that the book had belonged to a daughter of King George III.
