A beautiful album with 50 scenic photographs.
Including delicately rendered scenes of temples, landscapes, street scenes, geisha, and occupationals (including rice planting, women wading in a river, and a group of children); possibly attributed to the Kozaburo Tamamura studio, which operated in Tokyo and Yokohama. Hand-colored albumen prints, the images measuring approximately 8x10 inches (20.3x25.4 cm.), and the reverse, mounted recto/verso to mounts with hand-applied decorative elements, many with captions in the negative, and some with other captions, in pencil, below the image; with the original tissue guards. Oblong folio, red lacquer covers with gilt highlights and delicate pictorial elements; leather backstrip; all edges gilt; enclosed in the original cloth box with the printed KozaburoTamamura attribution. 1880s-90s
