Albumen print, the image measuring 3 3/4x2 1/4 inches (9.5x5.7 cm.), the mount slightly larger, with the notation E. A. Poe, in ink, and George K. Warren's printed credit, on mount recto, and with the Warren's Portraits, Boston imprint on mount verso. 1849; printed 1870s

Additional Details

Annie Richmond was believed to have had an intense love affair with Poe; the iconic daguerreotype portrait of the writer descended from her. This exquisitely sharp and subtle cdv copy of the so-called "Annie Daguerreotype" appears to have been made directly from the plate, possibly at the request of Richmond herself. Warren's studio was located in Lowell, Massachusetts, where Richmond lived.

There are references to a small number of copies that were made from the rare daguerreotype. However, we are unable to locate another albumen copy that recently appeared at auction.
