(ROADSIDE AMERICA)
Quirky and unique archive with 42 photographs documenting the Shartlesville, Pennsylvania attraction "Roadside America: World's Greatest Miniature Village."
Showing the vast sprawl of the toy town U.S.A., with numerous depictions of true Americana: gas stations, mining scenes, natural wonders, railroad trestles, an oil refinery, flowing waterfalls, farms, and saloons, alongside real-world features like the Statue of Liberty and Monument Valley. Also present are dozens of ephemeral items such as brochures, handouts, maps, menus, newsletters, advertisements, and handwritten letters from the owner/operator, Larry T. Gieringer. Silver prints, the images measuring 8x10 inches (20.3x25.4 cm.), and the reverse, a few with Gieringer's captions and commentary, in ink, and some with a photographer's hand stamp, on verso. Circa 1961

Additional Details

The archive presents an abundance of incontestible slogans, such as 'AMERICA'S MOST SPECTACULAR EXHIBIT' and 'WHO ENTERS THIS BUILDING WILL VIEW THE MOST AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL SIGHT OF THEIR LIFE—.'

Roadside America is still a functioning, family owned business, currently operated by Geiringer's granddaughter.
