This type of horizontal, bridging form is a recurring theme in Richard Hunt's work in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It follows such monumental works as A Bridge Across and Beyond, 1978, in bronze at Howard University, and Bridging and Branching, 1981, a public commission in the Chicago Park District.
