Additional Details

The Progressive Citizens of America was formed with Communist Party support; they eventually backed Progressive Party candidate Henry Wallace for president. By 21 June 1947, they had already drawn the attention of the House Un-American Activities Committee. This flier advertises a "Mass Meeting" at Park View Manor in Los Angeles, featuring B-level celebrities such as actor Albert Dekker and dancer Marie Bryant to discuss the economic effects of the recent dissolution of the Office of Price Administration. One side is headed "Are You Worried? No Wonder!" The other side is headed "Yes, We're Actors, but we're Citizens Too!" It is illustrated with pictures of 10 better-known actors such as Gene Kelly, Edward G. Robinson, John Garfield, and Lena Horne who were active in the PCA. We trace no other examples of this professionally produced advertisement in OCLC or at auction.
