      The Two Doorways.

      Etching and drypoint printed in dark brownish black on Japan paper, 1879-80. 202x292 mm; 8x11 5/8 inches, full margins. MacDonald's sixth state (of 13), before the parallel vertical lines covering the top step to the right of the seated man's haunches. Signed with the butterfly and inscribed "imp." in pencil on the tab, lower left. From Twelve Etchings. A very good, early impression with strong contrasts and with crisp plate edges.
