    • Sale 2510 Lot 32

      49 1/2x37 inches, 125 1/2x94 cm. F. Bernasek, Prague.
Condition B+: restored loss in upper right corner; vertical and horizontal folds; creases and restoration in margins.
Sutnar was very much involved in the staging of the third Czechoslovak Workers' Olympiad, for which he designed massive pageants (pantomime performances involving thousands of people, costumes, floats and sets). He also designed a poster for the event that won first prize in a public competition. That poster, similar in theme, featured a single man holding a flag. When the organizers decided they needed a poster emphasizing the role of women in the event, Sutnar delivered this image. Although unsigned, the image also appeared as a postcard, which is credited to both Sutnar and Tschinkel. Sutnar 19.
