Albumen photograph, 10 x 7 inches, partly laid down in original mat, with inked "Curley" stamp and embossed "Barry" stamp on mat and Barry's printed label on the heavy paper mount verso; captioned on verso in pencil "Gen'l Custer's scout, only survivor of the battle, June 25 1876," apparently in Barry's hand. Curley was a Crow employed by Custer as a scout at the Battle of Little Bighorn. As a scout, he did not participate actively in the battle, and escaped by disguising himself as a Sioux. Barry photographed him circa 1877, about a year after the fight.Price Realized (with Buyer's Premium) $2,500
