(ENGLISH WATERCOLORS.) Group of nineteenth-century marine and landscape watercolor drawings by a Royal Navy officer, possibly Henry Ambrose Scrivener. 12 watercolor sketches on heavy rag paper and one hand drawn map. The largest 9 3/4x14 3/4 inches; monogrammed, captioned and dated at lower edges; mounted to larger album leaves with secondary captions, mount edges with some chipping, map with a large closed tear. Vp, 1860's-1880's

The map follows the route of H.M.S. Harrier from Portsmouth to Rio de Janeiro, 1860-1861. Watercolors depict various places including Wilton Dale, Yorkshire, 1884; Thornton Abbey, Lincolnshire, 1885; Huasamayo Desert, Peru, 1881; Heligoland in the North Sea, 1883; Cape Forward, Strait of Magellan, 1881; Coquimbo Bay, Chile, 1879; Hungry Hill, Ireland, 1885; Loch Stenness, Orkney Isles, 1883; Pampa de Arrieros, Peru, 1881; Rock of Gibraltar, 1892 * Lake Archibold near Glengariff, 1885 * and one unlocated site dated 1881.
