(EPHEMERA.) The Glorious and Inglorious Career of Jeff. Davis, in Five Expressive Tableaux. Double-sided engraving, 6 1/2 x 9 inches, with 3 illustrations and 2 slits to allow the parts to be flipped; moderate edge wear and faint mount remnants on title panel. New York: J.W. Caldwell, 1861

Davis delivers his secession message, "intimates his aspirations for a crown," sits on a throne of cotton, becomes terrified by the Union advance toward Richmond, and then "finds his throne a Secession Cauldron, more useful than ornamental, with a brisk fire in the rear." Certainly from early in the war, before Bull Run. 3 copies in OCLC, and none traced at auction.Price Realized (with Buyer's Premium) $1,625
