A detailed summary of the assets and liabilities at each of the state's banks. During the period where local banks were issuing their own currency, these charts were useful in determining each bank's relative solvency. From 1824 to 1858, Massachusetts banks operated under the Suffolk System, an effort at industrial self-regulation to restore public confidence by reducing bank failures. Provenance: from the collection of William Wheeler III.
