Albumen photograph, 16 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches, signed by the artist in the negative, with Lincoln's facsimile signature below; corners cropped, moderate soiling and foxing, minor dampstaining, ink and wash portrait of unidentified woman laid down over the entirety of verso. Massachusetts, 1865

Spooner apparently based his painting on Christopher German's January 1861 photograph of Lincoln (Ostendorf O-41), thickening Lincoln's beard a bit and softening his features. He marketed photographs of his work in various sizes including cartes-de-visite.
