"I AM NOW GOING TO PUBLISH . . . MY DOINGS IN MYCENAE" (SCIENTISTS.) SCHLIEMANN, HEINRICH. Autograph Letter Signed, "HSchliemann," in English, to "Dear Mr. Tuckerman," thanking him and Mrs. Tuckerman for congratulations on his successful excavation in Mycenae, stating that an exhibition would not happen before next summer, requesting that he satisfy himself concerning Schliemann's U.S. citizenship by contacting the New York Court of Common Pleas, noting that he states his nationality in his books, and anticipating his upcoming book on the Mycenae discoveries to be published by John Murray. 1 1/2 pages, 8vo, thin paper, written on recto and verso of a single sheet; lower half mounted to larger sheet, moderate bleed-through overall, folds. Athens, 16 January 1877

      Estimate $500 - 750

". . . I . . . thank you . . . for your congratulations on my success in Mycenae. In fact I feel quite proud to see that my labours are so highly appreciated by you. But unfortunately there is little or no hope that the Treasures will be exhibited here before next summer, because the Archaeological Society has not even ordered yet the necessary glass cases, etc. . . . [T]hey have, I think, no suitable place . . . to put up so enormous a mass of jewels, which would fill the whole upper story of the British Museum. . . .
"I am now going to publish at Mr. John Murray's in London in English my doings in Mycenae with 400 or more photolithographic plates of the Treasures (with the photographing of which I am progressing) . . . ."
