      "CRISIS AT . . . PRINCETON UNIVERSITY" CLEVELAND, FRANCES FOLSOM. Two Autograph Letters Signed, "Frances F. Cleveland," to Natalie Harris Hammond ("Dear Mrs. Hammond"). The first, thanking for offering the use of her automobile, discussing her husband's recent [heart?] attack and slow recovery, and noting that there are no plans to leave soon. The second, describing the funding crisis of Princeton University's graduate school and asking for help. Together 7 1/2 pages, 8vo or 4to, second on personal stationery; scattered marginal remnants of prior mounting, folds. The second with the original envelope mounted to last page below text. Lakewood, NJ, 10 May 1908; Tamworth, NH, 30 May 1909

      10 May 1908: ". . . Mr. Cleveland is gaining all the time, in every way, but we fear it will be a long time before he is as strong as usual. Last summer he had one similar attack (this time it was two, near together) and it was weeks & weeks before he got about at all . . . . He is doing so well here that we have no plans yet for leaving. . . ."
      30 May 1909: ". . . [I]t is my great interest at Princeton to see the Graduate School in which my husband was so deeply interested go on to success . . . . I don't know that you are inclined or situated to give any larger sum to anything just now, but it does no harm to ask . . . ."
